One of the ludicrous fabrications of our time

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”

I am most surprised myself to be instinctively referring to the Book of Ecclesiastes or any other biblical verse here, for in spite of my Christian upbringing, I’ve since come too long a way to uncritically accept the moral views and values proclaimed, like the author being unable to ascribe eternal meaning to life simply because both wise and foolish men eventually die. But sometimes a residue surfaces in response to a feeling or concern, a reassurance from a more faithful past to convince me all will be fine, with a dutiful connotation to enjoy the simple pleasures of daily life, such as eating, drinking, and taking enjoyment in one’s work, all very grounding, in a way, and exceptionally useful with Covid surging heavily again and new measures on their way to thoroughly regulate our lives further.

I’m well aware it’s not going to be ‘been there, done that’. Not unlike the virus itself, risks are exponentially increasing with people less afraid and more prone to alternative facts, just to throw in one of the ludicrous fabrications of our time, but it all feels pretty familiar and doable, dare I say preferable even, to have another lock-up coming our way, even if our paradise isn’t paradise, and flawed in many ways.

If Les Pierres has taught me anything, living our lives like we try to do, often failing miserably at it because of our ignorances and prejudices, it’s that there’s always something new under the sun. Every single day.

Trying to make ones life sustainable is more than a personal choice and almost automatically leads to a multitude of decisions you have never even thought of before. On this website we share what works for us, or woefully no longer works, obviously without claiming the same for you.

We hope that our journey towards a supplementary comprehensive celebration of nature’s beauty might just clear a pathway forward for you too, perhaps challenges a revealing reconsideration, or simply provides for an equally indispensable diversion.

Can we change the world through food? We believe we can and we support Slow Food, a global movement of local communities and activists across more than 160 countries. Together we defend cultural and biological diversity, promote food education and the transfer of traditional knowledge and skills.
