After a sharp increase in barley production in France in the 1960s, production subsequently fluctuated between 7 million and 13 million tons produced per year until 2019.
In 2019, French farmers produced the most barley with more than 13.5 million tons.
Barley is the cereal, which after the soaking and germination process, gives the malt and is essential for the manufacturing of beer.
