“You spend too much time dreaming in the garden.”
These famous last words were directed at me by someone on Facebook, right before he blocked and unfriended me earlier this week, therewith suggesting that my withdrawn lifestyle has made me unaware of what is really going on in the world.
I had the audacity to call him out on his Trump-like blaming of the media (“Sensational Cunts” I think he called them) and explicit racist posts, so I wasn’t too surprised by the way I subsequently got treated by him and his friends. Their remarks were obviously meant to talk down on me and I have walked down the road of being blocked for frankly expressing my opinions many times before, but his words nonetheless resonated with me.
Before we moved to Les Pierres, we were the caretakers of a property close by. The owners proclaimed it their life motto to try and be tolerant to intolerant people, which weirdly enough sounded wonderful and open-minded at first, until we realized just how toxic an environment it created, where misconduct without any consequence ruled.
That profound life lesson got us into this garden and it’s probably what will keep us here too. Life turned pink. Pink is beautiful. We should all spend a bit more time dreaming (preferably in gardens), but keep rejecting intolerance.
